Love and Memory

Rosemary is native to the coastal area of the Mediterranean Sea basin, where it has been cultivated for more than 5000 years. The history of the aromatic plant is full of legends, myth and folklore, being used in medicinal remedies, culinary delights or even as a cure for love and love charms.

The name Rosmarinus comes from the Latin “ros” and “marinus” which together translate as “dew of the sea,” from the dewy appearance that the sea spray creates on plants growing near water. Later it was called “Mary’s Rose” or “rosemary,” in honor of the Virgin Mary.

The Egyptians considered rosemary to be sacred and even used it in burial rituals, placing sprigs of rosemary in their tombs as a symbol of immortality.

The magical properties of this plant were used in love and protection spells and as an aphrodisiac. To ensure that their husbands would remain their idols, married women placed rosemary near the front door of the house. It was also used in spells for happiness and fidelity. Rosemary was placed under the pillow to ward off evil spirits and nightmares.

In ancient times, Greek students wore rosemary wreaths to energize their minds and improve their memory. And later, in the Victorian Age, the plant was associated with memory, being recommended as a remedy for memory loss.

In recent decades, researchers have focused on discovering the beneficial therapeutic properties of different types of rosemary extracts and its main constituents.

Numerous modern studies have shown that the rosemary extracts have hepatoprotective, antifungal, antibacterial, antioxidant and neurostimulatory phytotherapeutic activities.

To obtain rosemary essential oil, the medicinal plant is harvested at the perfect time, in full bloom when it produces the most active bioingredients.

Harvesting takes place between late spring and early summer to collect only the most tender parts and to encourage a sustainable agriculture.

Rosemary oil has an expectorant effect when inhaled, relieving the lung congestion caused by allergies, colds or flu. Inhaling the aroma fights against respiratory infections due to its antiseptic properties, and the antispasmodic effect helps in the treatment of bronchial asthma.
