Native to the Mediterranean Sea basin, thyme has been widely used for thousands of years due to its benefits to human health and for flavoring the food.
In his records, Alexander Tschirch, a renowned German pharmacist passionate about botany and the benefits of plants on the human body, attests that thyme was first mentioned in Egypt where it was used for washing the dead and for fumigation (cleaning the air).
Then in the 2nd century AD, Galen of Pergamum, a renowned physician and philosopher, introduced thyme to the list of medicinal plants, and from there thyme’s fame grew and generated new and new uses.
Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) is a herbaceous plant of the Lamiaceae (Labiatae) family, which is intensely studied for its compounds with a wide range of beneficial effects on the whole body.
Thyme’s curative properties are attributed to its volatile oils containing thymol (40.5%), p-cymene (23.6%), carvacrol (3.2%), linalool (5.4%), flavonoids, saponins and tannins.
Thyme essential oil is known for its antiseptic, antibiotic, antifungal disinfectant, carminative, astringent, anthelmintic/antiparasitic and tonic properties.
A study coordinated by Kwon, Hyo II et al. published in 2018¹, which focuses on the benefits of thyme, reveals an improvement of chronic atopic dermatitis by applying thymol (the main volatile oil in the composition of thyme) to the skin of affected patients.
Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) essential oil combats respiratory disorders, having been used for hundreds of years to treat coughs, nasal congestion or bronchitis.
Thyme essential oil has anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties and is often used to reduce inflammation and to fight against fungal infections, including Candida albicans. It is also an exceptional antiparasitic, with very good results in eliminating the intestinal parasites.
A natural antibiotic, thyme is often used to fight intestinal dysbiosis.
Thyme essential oil improves the liver function and stimulates the appetite.
It is recommended diluted for massaging painful joints, relieving rheumatic pains, and for treating Tinea pedis / athlete’s foot.
When diffused, its fragrance fights stress, has an anxiolytic effect, cleanses the skin, eliminates harmful viruses and bacteria and reduces inflammation. Applied diluted topically to the skin it soothes irritations and insect bites.

Instructions:
» For internal use, diluted with honey or edible oil:
2-3 drops 2-3 times a day. The dose is mixed in a teaspoon of honey (diabetics: a quarter teaspoon of edible oil). Use for 7-14 days.
It may be repeated after a 2-week break.
» For internal use in empty vegetable capsules:
Administration in capsules allows a better assimilation of the oils, as they go directly into the stomach where they act at the gastric level. Open an empty vegetable capsule, introduce the essential oil with the syringe/dipper together with the edible oil as indicated on the leaflet, and close the capsule. It is recommended to swallow the capsules immediately.
» For external topical use, diluted:
In order to avoid any discomfort, dryness and irritation of the skin, or even the rapid evaporation of the essential oils, it is recommended to apply them together with an almond or argan oil. In massage therapies, it is recommended to use diluted in oils with a firmer consistency. Do not apply on open wounds, irritated skin or sunburn. Test in advance
a small amount on an area of skin.
» Aromatherapy, inhalations:
It is used in ultrasound diffusers and aromatherapy lamps, both for its benefits to the body (relaxing, anti-allergic, decongestant) and to cleanse and disinfect the room of bacteria, fungi and mold spores. Cold inhalations are recommended for relaxation, or hot inhalations (1-3 drops) in respiratory diseases: rhinitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, etc.

• avoiding the volatilization of the oil on contact with the air;
• not to be compromised by external organic matter;
